Our very own Rick Barton participates in the Super Plunge of the
Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge on January 29, 2010!
He describes the event in his own words:
"A professional photographer took this photo of me coming out of the water. I had just come up from being totally under. The entire event was an incredible experience.
Starting Friday at 10:00 a.m. about 80 of us did at least one dip in the Bay per hour for 24 hours. I was able to get some sleep along the way but not much. It was very cold outside, going into the teens and it was windy too. My "team" of fundraisers brought in almost $14,000 and the entire group of super plungers brought in about $ 500,000. The funds help Special Olympics Maryland. Some of the athletes also did the super plunge and I was able to meet many of the people who benefit from the program.
It is one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my life. It was a little challenging but not as difficult as I expected. It helped me remember that giving to a good cause is not so difficult and offers many rewards.
For those of you who contributed, thank you. Anyone who still wants to contribute can do so by visiting the following website: http://plungemd.kintera.org/rickbarton "
